Giving tyres new life
Byron Bay designers Monica Corser and Bernie Kudernatsch devoted three years to figuring out how to transform old tyres into furniture.

Given that a billion tyres are discarded around the world each year, the creative duo is doing their bit for global landfill by transforming waste into functional furniture.

Tyres offer us great service during their working lifetime - it's wonderful to be able to give them new life with practical purpose.

It's satisfying saving what we can from landfill - as well as being eye-catching, Retyred Furniture is as green as black can get.

The furniture's' unique design and construction is defined by the shape of the tyres.

The tyres themselves determine the breadth of the designs, & at the same time they force us to work with particular dimensions and shapes - mostly round.

Together with her partner Phil and his extensive Project Management experience and a passion for (landscape) design, they decided to bring Retyred Furniture to New Zealand.

Understanding Retyred
Using 100% recycled tyres, Retyred Furniture makes a wonderful range of outdoor furniture, pots, baskets & more.

The natural attributes of the rubber lend itself very well to both comfort & durability.

All their products are uniquely handcrafted using a combination of recycled truck, car & motorbike tyres.

Retyred Furniture designs & produces in a small village in Indonesia providing quality working conditions & employing local craftsmen.

As the rubber is flexible the furniture may be the most comfortable outdoor furniture you have ever sat in. Beside the wonderful fact that it is recycled, the comfort is one of the most amazing attributes.

Each piece of furniture has been thoroughly cleaned. A tyre will only leave marks when it has been exposed to high friction. You can sit on your clean furniture in white & walk away with clean clothing.
